Scott White, in front of a Stearman he restored.I'm Scott White, the owner of White Aero Restorations. I have over 35 years of experience both flying and restoring planes, and I have held an Airframe and Powerplant license for over 30 years.

My specialty is Stearmans, but I also enjoy working on anything with two wings or fabric.

Scott White's father's WWII medals. Scott keeps these on display in the shop.Like a lot of baby boomers, my father introduced me to airplanes. During WWII, he spent most of his time in the infantry but managed to get accepted into the Army Air Corps pilot-training program.

I inherited his interest in aviation, and have been lucky enough to be involved in both flying and maintenance. I received my private pilot license in high school, and, upon graduation, enlisted in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. When discharged, I was fortunate enough to be able to use the G.I. bill to further my ratings, and I started flying for independent corporations.

Over the years, I flew some great aircraft, but I always found myself tinkering with an old airplane.

White Areo logo, which appears outside our hangar. So, in 1985, I formed White Aero. We have over 20 years of experience in almost every aspect of aviation, but we now exclusively specialize in restorations of tube-and-fabric aircraft, something that has given us a great deal of satisfaction and success.

We pride ourselves on being flexible; we will be happy to do partial restorations. We do not limit our projects to simply museum-quality restorations.

Our customers are our best advertising, and we have excellent references available.

Our Facility

White Aero hangar, where we restore our Stearmans. We are located in the rural farmland of south central Ohio, just 30 minutes south of Columbus. Our building has over 6000 square feet of heated and air-conditioned work space for true year-round paint-and-fabric capabilities. We offer a 2800-foot grass strip for easy access.

Our Staff

Dick Wells, our tube-and-fabric wing guru.Dick Wells has an extensive background in aviation. He had his own maintenance shop in Cleveland in the 40s, and was lucky enough to see many of the Cleveland Air Races; he even got to work on some of the old race planes. He eventually ended up in Columbus and landed a job with North American Aviation, where for over 30 years he was in field service. He has worked on everything from T-28s to the Vigilante. The last few years before he retired, he worked in the technical-publications department where he assisted in writing the maintenance manuals for the B-1 bomber.

A few years ago, he received the Charles Taylor award by the FAA for 50 years of service in aviation maintenance.

Dick is our ace woodworker and has been with us since 1986. He can do just about anything, but his specialty is wood. If it leaves our shop, it probably has a set of Wells Wings on it.
